Work Out in the Morning

There are some great benefits to a morning workout.

  • It wakes you up
  • Improves the entire day (mood, energy, etc)
  • Start of the day with a feeling of accomplishment
  • You don't have all day to figure out excuses to avoid doing it
  • It's not weighing on your mind the whole day as an undone task
  • Nothing else is going on the morning - no one can interfere
  • Provides motivation to stick with the day's meal plans
  • Means you only need 1 shower per day
  • It's less crowded at the gym

Of course, a morning workout means you have to get up earlier.

If you are not a morning person (many of us aren't), you can "train" yourself to be better at getting up.

Here are some ideas:
  • Meet someone else (you don't want to let them down)
  • Put bright, blue-spectrum light (daylight bulbs) in your bedroom with a timer
  • Do your workout outdoors in the summer; you are forced to go early to beat the heat
  • Take the morning one step at a time ... it all starts with swinging your legs out of bed, then standing up

Also, prepare the night before by laying out the clothes you'll wear or packing your gym bag, and prepping a quick morning snack.
