One of the best ways to get a handle on snacking is to Food Journal.
For a sweets craving without any true hunger behind it, here are some great ideas people have used...
Brush your teeth to make them feel nice and fresh. You're not likely to want to ruin the clean taste, and if you did eat, the toothpaste would make the food taste weird.
You can even seal the deal with mouthwash.
And floss your teeth
If you tend to eat snacks in the evening before bedtime... do it early on, like right after dinner
Other ideas...
Chew some mint gum. Anytime someone brings out the snacks, bring out your gum. Keeps your mouth busy, tastes good, and you can't eat anything while gum is in your mouth.
Drink some water with Crystal Light powder (zero calories but tastes like a sweet treat)
Eat some pickles -- no calories, and strong flavor can satiate your cravings for taste-stimulation.
Have a glass of water - then see how you feel a few minutes later.
If you are actually hungry, eat a proper snack:
Piece of fruit ... or anything high in fiber
A high protein item
